The Pennywise Foundation (PWF) is implementing a multi year strategic support and giving program, VoteWise, focusing giving when and where it matters most to have maximum impact on increased access to voting and voting participation. PWF has partnered with prominent voting rights organizations that have proven records of impact. These partners are helping to identify priority locations for voting rights activism and promising community based organizations operating within them.
PWF is developing this program to reflect our growing understanding that voting advocacy organizations need reliable, year round and multi year funding so that they can maximize organizational capacities. They need to be able to support well compensated, stable staffing; organizational infrastructure and overhead; and access to current technology tools in order to perform effectively. They also need expanded support that will allow them to invest in innovative collaborations and to coordinate efforts at all levels.
We understand that in the philanthropic sector there is an over prioritization of high-profile state and national work to the detriment of small grassroots voting rights organizations operating in their own communities. We believe there is a better approach. We think donors should bring a movement-building perspective to supporting voting rights by supporting local groups and emphasizing collaboration. In turn, funders should collaborate with one another by working together to align voting rights
investments and broaden impact.
The VoteWise Program centers on increased access to and engagement with voting for all. The Pennywise Foundation does not engage in lobbying or any other type of partisan political activities or advocacy.
